Our Story

How We Look at a Deck

Deck work is what we do, from framing a new one to fixing whatever's failing on an old one. Most of us came up doing general carpentry or framing work before narrowing in on decks specifically, because the coastal weather here creates problems indoor carpentry never has to deal with. That difference is what keeps this interesting.

If you're on this page, chances are your deck has a soft spot near the stairs, the railing moves when you grab it, or the boards have started cupping and splitting after a few summers in the sun. Most of that traces back to water getting into end grain or a ledger board that was never flashed properly against the house. We pull the bad boards, check the framing underneath before covering anything back up, and flash every connection point so water sheds away from the house instead of pooling against it.

Why Choose Us

What you get when you hire us

None of this is complicated. It is mostly just doing what we said we would do.

Licensed and Insured

You can ask for our license and insurance certificates before we start. If a post gets set wrong or something gets damaged mid-job, that's on our policy, not yours.

Permits Pulled Right

Orange County cities require permits for raised decks and anything attached structurally to the house. We handle that paperwork and the inspection instead of leaving you to deal with the city.

We Clean Up After Ourselves

Deck demolition leaves scrap wood and loose fasteners behind. We bag the hardware and haul the lumber so you're not stepping on rusty screws a month later.

Written Quotes

The quote lists the decking material, fastener type, and framing lumber, not just one lump number. That way you know exactly what changes if you upgrade to composite later.

We Show Up When We Say

Weather can push a stain job or a pour back a day, but you hear about it before it happens, not after. You'll know roughly when your yard is unusable and when you get it back.

Our Own Crew

The same crew that frames your deck sets the railing and runs the stain at the end. That continuity is why the details line up instead of looking like three different jobs.

Common Questions

Things people ask us

Questions about us specifically, not the work itself.

How long have you been building decks?
Coastal Deck Solutions has built and repaired decks across the Orange County coast, focused specifically on deck construction rather than general remodeling. That focus means more time spent on the failure points decks run into near saltwater, like fastener corrosion and ledger flashing.
Do you use your own crew or subcontractors?
The crew that frames a deck is the same crew that finishes the railing and staining, not a rotating group of subcontractors. That consistency is why details match from one end of the job to the other.
Can I see examples of past deck work?
Photos of completed deck projects can be shared on request, along with references from past customers if that helps with a decision. An in-person look at a nearby completed job can sometimes be arranged, which shows board spacing and railing detail better than a photo does.
Why hire a smaller deck builder instead of a bigger remodeling company?
A smaller, deck-focused operation means the person quoting the job is often the same person on-site running it, rather than a project manager passing information between office and crew. That usually means fewer miscommunications about material choices or framing details.
Where are you based?
Coastal Deck Solutions is based in Huntington Beach, CA, and works throughout the surrounding coastal cities in Orange County. Being local matters for deck work specifically, because the coastal air and soil conditions here differ from inland Southern California.
What's your availability like?
Scheduling varies by season, with spring and early summer being the busiest months for new deck builds. Repair work usually has more flexibility and can often be slotted in faster than a full installation.
Do you clean up the site when the job is done?
Cut-off lumber, old decking, packaging, and loose fasteners get cleared from the yard before the crew leaves each day, not just at the end of the job. Deck demolition in particular leaves a lot of scrap that gets hauled off rather than left in a pile.
What if something gets damaged on my property during the work?
Liability insurance covers damage to the property caused during the course of the work, and that documentation is available before the job starts. Any concern about a specific area of the yard, like sprinkler lines or landscaping, is worth flagging before demolition begins.
Will you finish a deck another contractor started or abandoned?
Taking over a deck another contractor left unfinished happens occasionally, though the framing and any existing work gets inspected first to see what's usable versus what should be redone. Sometimes the cheaper path is removing what's there rather than building on top of an unknown foundation.
How can I tell if the deck work is being done properly?
A properly built deck should have consistent board spacing, no visible fastener heads on composite decking, and railings that don't move when pushed on. Asking to see the framing before the decking boards go down, or asking for photos of it, is a reasonable way to check the structural work before it gets covered up.
